Handling rejection

I have just come across an article from Freelance Students which was wrote in August 2009 and is still relevant today. It’s about rejection.

Do you find rejection harsh? I have learnt to deal with it but there are still times that I am not prepared for it and hate it even though I have applied for almost 400 jobs and have been rejected for all of them.

A few months ago I got an email. It was sent on a Sunday and I opened it a few hours later. It was a rejection letter. Yes – I got a rejection letter on a Sunday when no one works. They must have thought it was so important to reject me that it couldn’t wait until Monday. That was a downer…

I have also been phoned up at random telling me that I had been rejected for a job even though I never even got through to the interview stage. If you’re going to phone me to reject me make sure you have actually spoken to me before. If not, an email with suffice. If you don’t like tech you can send a letter but I don’t really like the anticipation of opening a letter only to find I have been rejected.

If you are going to reject me after the interview stage I would like it if you would send me feedback especially if I ask for it. Just going silent after that is lowering your reputation in my eyes.

Tomorrow I will be looking at predictions for the year ahead.
